So, what did you think of this guys? I have to say it was a blast having this old storyline revived and the comic felt both old and familiar but also modern too, a real contradiction in terms but one that worked for me.
It didn't occur to me at the time of reading but looking over the pages just now, this intro sequence is an updated version of the Wreckers debut in Target 2006 when they mash up the facsimilie Decepticons. For today's modern audience facsimilies are replaced with holographic simulated Decepticons. Ironic that Megatron is the deadliest of the bunch and he's the one who causes all the trouble later in the issue (I'll say no more if you haven't read the issue yet).
Good to see the Deluxe Insecticons and Roadbuster still alive, as when we saw them in Time Wars it looked pretty terminal (certainly in RB's case), but 21 years ought to be plenty of time for TFs to be reconstructed. I wonder if Kup is a member of the Wreckers here (ie serving under Springer) or teaming up with them. Seems like the association between Kup and the Wreckers that came out of All Hail Megatron has spilled to this continuity.
Looking forward to issue 82 now. Of the three I'm most excited about this one now, although MTMTE is still very good. RID I'm starting to feel a little less keen on but maybe Prime and the Dinobots return can liven it up.
