You guys have been creating some really great reading on here lately, unfortunately with Comic-Con and all kinds of other stuff, I've been just too darn busy to post lately. And it looks like that's going to remain the case for a while, but I did want to do some quick responses to some of the stuff I'm reading on here!
First, about our SDCC presentation. There was not a lot new announced. The reason for that is that Comic-Con doesn't tend to get much coverage so it's really not a great place to announce new TF stuff. Look for more at the upcoming New York show in October.
Couple of things we did talk about were the LAST STAND OF THE WRECKERS trade paper back. It will contain all-new bios that weren't in the comics as well as a full prose short story by James Roberts called "Bullets." Well worth picking this up for a great new short story as well as just because it's the best darned TF comic ever (no offense to any other TF book!).
Transformers #13 puts us in space with Hotrod and the matrix is in the mix... somehow. That one's illustrated by Nick Roche!
We talked about the Sector 7 mini which is taking the movie universe in a very different direction but I think is the first movie book to really use that universe's unique lore in a way I haven't seen before. I like all the previous stuff, but this is fun to read because it is so different. And Joe Suitor's art is really killer!
We talked a little about PRIME, the original graphic novel.
We talked a bit about the new DRIFT mini and what it's about. Despite the fact that it's set in the past, a very cool seed is getting planted in that series that is going to become important to TF ongoing a little later.
And I talked about the designs of the TFs. Starting around issue 14, the designs are going to be more consistent than they have been. I like letting the artists do a lot of different things with the characters, but it didn't go over huge with you guys. So the designs will be more consistent upon Don's return in issue 14 (and he's even tweaked his designs a bit more as he's been figuring them out). Each artist still has his or her own style of course, but the designs should start reading the same across the board. Please note that's not a hard-date, with issue 14. Some things have been in development for quite a while and so some of those kinks will get ironed out a little later.
And that was about it. There were some mentions of THE THIRTEEN and an upcoming mini focusing on Punch/Counter Punch as well.
The really good news is that while at the show, I had some really great meetings with artists and writers. I've been limited a lot recently due to several TF creators who for one reason or another have had to cut back on their work load (having kids seems to do that a lot). And meeting with some new guys was really great, and they're excited to try and work on some cool TF stuff. So, I have high hopes that some of them will work out on the books!
On another panel, we announced INFESTATION. More to come on that...
We've been tightening the reins in a bit on TF and planning some pretty big stuff. I know the ongoing hasn't been everyone's favorite, but I honestly think you're going to like where we're headed. We'll be picking up the pace a bit very soon and you're going to see some new projects with other characters that I think are going to surprise you (in a good way).
So, that's my "report" from the convention and just addressing some stuff I've seen on the boards. I'm out of town for the weekend, but I keep wanting to post and not having the time.
Again, thanks for all the great talk and feedback on the TF books, you keep your comments coming, and I'll keep trying to build better and better books!
