Amazon (US) have TPB for a Drift Mini on their site due for release at end of November. It's written by Shane McCarthy, I've checked his blog and it just says he's working on a secret mini, so looks like Amazon have leaked what it is onto their site.
Oddly, this TPB comes out a month before Ironhide's TPB (in the US no dates for UK release).
Looks like it could be about his defection from the Con's and his knowledge of the 3rd faction.

Potentially Rad! if true(?) i haven't seen it anywhere else, but if i may speculate... and my GF's in bed, so i shall... This should be fairly well received by fellow Geewunners, as it's, more often than not, difficult to adjust to new CRAP being dropped into a 25+ yr old franchise that doesn't need freshening, but continuity. And seeing Drift's stuck around for the ongoing, the readers deserve to know why they should allow this previously unheard of Con/Bot to join the fray. AHM, regardless of it's definite interruption of what was a poorly completed G1 story that came before it, was very surprisingly well written, and I expect the same from my Ex-local-comic-shop-employee again and hope that this project indeed comes to fruition.

I'm looking forward to this series too. No doubt it will enrage that element of the fandom who loathe AHM, Drift and Shane McCarthy but as a con-defector Drift has got a more interesting backstory than most so why not tell it. To me this mini makes more sense than Ironhide who I've never found a particularly interesting character.

Seeing as they are doing all these mini series based on characters, do you think they will ever do one about some of Kups old war stories? I caught the 5 page preview of TF:Timelines #5 Wings of Honour. I think it would be quite interesting.

I'll buy it and I'll read it with interest. To me though it's a complete over indulgence from IDW. With over 800 Gen 1 and Gen 2 characters (taking into account the Japanese and Gen 1.5 European characters) most of whom have had little to no character development, to devote a mini series to a new, freshly created character in a story (albeit different continuity) spanning 25+ years is daft. Drift is a cool character, same as Straxus and Impactor before him, but he should be a bit player not a key character in the continuity IMHO.

The irony is that despite all the hype and the counter-reaction Drift IS a bit player in AHM. I mean what does he actually do? It's not until his spotlight that we get any idea of what he's all about and why he's got a different backstory to the others. I take the point about there being a massive cast of characters to choose from already but to me its no different to Hasbro releasing a new toy and then IDW or Marvel giving them facetime in the comic. Except in Drift's case the proverbial cart is before the horse.
