So now Scorponok is now a titan size compare to what we saw in Ultra Magnus spotlight?

Gonna be a good one, what a way to end the preview! As killer says Scorpy's scale is a little different to previous portrayals but I can live with that, I remember that the variations in style and size within the old Marvel comics and that never really bothered me (too much). Genuinely really looking forward to this one and it's going to be fascinating to see how Simon wraps everything up ready for AHM.

Nick has drawn Scorponok true to his toy and the size he was in the Marvel TF comics. Magnus is about the same size toy wise, whereas Hot Rod is a smaller Transformer. It makes sense that Scorpy towers over him and could kick his ass around the room.

True, but then Grimlock would be nearer the height of Hot Rod than Scorponok going by toy sizes and when he was duking it out with Scorpy he was about the same size. Regardless, I'm looking forward to it.

Just received my copy. Simon's writing is excellent, as always. My only complaint is how the Dinobots look in robot mode. It seems that Nick Roche has taken his artistic ques from TF:Animated. Swoop is way to thin, what self respecting Decepticon would be scared of a skinny Dinobot?

Another cracking issue and I'm rather fond of Nick's "Maximum Dinobots No More" B cover. It conjures up happy nostalgia for the Marvel days.
In a way it feels like IDW did Simon a favour by insisting he wrap up his 'ations script. Now that the shackles are off and the serious stuff is out of the way, it feels like he's having fun with this vastly more simple story.
Admittedly I do worry that there's not enough elements to this story, and those that are there are a tad predictable. For example Skywatch setting the Dinos on Grimlock and my expectation that this will result in them losing control and having to use Shockwave etc.
If memory serves the loose ends being wrapped up by this five parter are as follows: Scorponok and Machination/Headmasters, Huntstreaker, return/emancipation of the Dinobots and Shockwave. Given Simon's propensity to run lots of plots simultaneously that's not a lot of threads.
So its nice to see the 'mysterious group' arriving in orbit. It introduces an unpredictable element and should hopefully ensure this title keeps delivering and doesn't fizzle out.

Enjoyed the story (as I suspected I would!) but I have to say the artwork on some of the pages, particularly when Grimlock was fighting the other Dino's, was too hectic and confusing, I had to really look at the picture to decifer what was happening, it was all far too busy and reminded me of the mess that was Megatron Origins. On the whole though, great stuff. Absolutely loved the interaction between the Seekers and the Insecticons, and I think it's now clear what the swarm is in this continuity; failed Insecticons.

As an aside, PLEASE let the mysterious group be the Predacons for that rematch with the Dinobots that I've been waiting for for 20 years!! :-)

I was hoping it would be the Predacons but from what I've read elsewhere it would seem that it's the Monsterbots

I dunno about it being the Monsterbots. As nice as it would be to see them get some airtime at last, I'm sure it would make sense to turn them loose in a comic about the dinobots. The problem for me is that both teams are too similar. They're both mavericks and both transform into monsters, and the dinos have already bagged that role.
So unless the Monsterbots have been reinvented I can't see it being them. The Predacons on the other hand sets the stage for an interesting battle.
By and large I'm liking Nick's art on this series and the TF Animated style dinos doesn't bother me much, apart from Swoop who I agree is a bit anorexic looking now. I found myself trying to decipher the fight scene too but I don't know if that's the artist or colourist's fault.

I'd love to see the predacons in this I reckon they should get some mileage out of them as they have hardly featured at all in the IDW continuity. Briefly in Stormbringer and then a little bit in Spotlight Blaster and that is it. If we don't get them here though there is definately spotlight Jazz I wasn't too keen on the style, I thought the dino's looked cool in spotlight Shockwave. Swoop does seem a little anorexic yeah. seems they are kind of animated/G1 hybrids but I can live with that. I noticed in the blurb for issue 5 there is the inference that one of the dinobots gets destroyed, which one do you think it will be. Snarl? He is missing out of the movie ;D

Probably Swoop as he always seems to cop it. The Monsterbots only showed up a couple of times in the original Marvel run (in the Headmasters mini series and a brief cameo in the 1988 story Totalled) and to the best of my knowledge they haven't appeared since. Here's a YouTube clip about them - uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9SdN-zvZpYo

I'd go for Snarl getting his arse whipped (he was never my favorite Dino) after all in Furman's Marvel universe he came down with a robot disease of somesorts.
As for the new arrivals, having taken a closer look, the two shadowy characters look quite like Scourge and his Sweeps or Firecons but the one closer, who's eyes we see, I can't decide.

Read it along with the new AHM. Great read and again, it´s amazing how much more happens in the same amount of pages compared directly to AHM.

What I like about the IDW continuity is that they don't seem to bothered about killing off characters now and then, which kinda makes sense as the autobots and decepticons are perpetually at war with each other. I think Swoop for choice of dinobot to bite the dust would be the classic choice as he is frail and weedy looking compared to the others but I just get the feeling that Snarl will be taken out. Great to see Shockwave being brought back into play. I think my most favourite IDW comic was Spotlight Shockwave so I am really looking forward to more Max Dinobots

Ryall has a five page preview of max dinos 3 up on his blog and it looks like your analogy of the ol xmen no more is set to continue as the team dont appear to have let bygones be bygones with swoop implying their not gonna follow grimlock blindly anymore. i kinds like that. the dinos are meant to be anti authroritarian and conflict is always a good source of character development. we also get a good look at the bots for the first time in a line up and sludge is HUGE. im delighted about that as it gives him more credibility as the teams quiet powerhouse. in regards to swoop i just wish he was a bit more frightening. that was always in his tech specs and while i think nicks on the right path a little more tweaking is in order there. for what its worth i think the new team are the monsterbots too. that definetly looked like repugnus's back in max dinos 2 and i just dont see grimlock calling a con for back up. he'd be too proud. but i DO see him grudgingly respecting the monsterbots as like you mentioned theyre alot alike. still early days yet ! for all we know they might just decide to take him down, he IS a fugitive accroding to the books. i agree with what others said about the art being a bit busy, but all in all i could follow what went on and TBH i really enjoy watching nick develop as an artist. he's literally miles ahead of what he was doing in spotlight shockwave. roll on max dinos 3, thurs cant come quick enough !
