Was wondering if anyone here has this on DVD and recommends it?
Was about to buy, then noticed the cover for Masterforce (follow on series), the human chararcters looked a little funny looking on the cover (pokemon style) - which put me off.

What's the basic premise of this series? Are the original TFs in it or have they been entirely replaced by the Headmasters and Targetmasters? What about Powermasters - are they in it?

In the headmaster series, you could still get some of the original TF making appearances. After that they put the spotlight on Fortress and his headmaster/targetmaster team. The masterforce will have pretenders and powermasters. These are very different from the marvel's version. Victory will have the brainmasters. You could see guest appearance of Wheeljack and Perceptor. All TF in the series are new characters.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of the Takara series, the novelty of seeing new characters duke it out wears off quickly and is replaced by frustration at the tedious plots and poor scripting.

I have it - haven't watched it all yet. I actually love the cover art, the humans are drawn in animé style I guess, but a Nick Roche cover always has expressively animated robots.
The japanese series are all a bit kooky and the dubs circulated initially had more hilarity value than anything. Some fans enjoy them (I certainly don't mind them anymore than the regular cartoon) whilst others don't care for them.

Are they worse than the US series three? Cause alot of those eps were pretty lame (compared with the previous two seasons)

i got it for christmas. Me, too. It´s pretty good actually, but watching it more than once or twice isn´t necessary.
